Trench Collapse Unit

It is with pride that we announce that the Monticello Fire Department Trench Collapse Rescue Unit is now up and running and online, ready to respond to trench rescues and building collapses. MFD is the FIRST department in Sullivan County to assemble such an elite team. Staffed by professional volunteers, our trench team has undergone specialized training to be able to serve our community and our neighboring county fire departments in the specialized area of Trench /Building Collapse Emergencies. We are now also in a position to back up other trench collapse teams from out of county as they have done so for us in the past. Recognizing the need for this specialized unit, MFD Chief Marc Friedland and Carl Houman (Director of Fire Safety), with the assistance of grants made possible by Assembly Woman Aileen Gunther and State Senator John Bonacic and, the dedicated members of MFD, have changed this unit from being just a thought to being a reality and ready to respond.
