The Monticello Joint Fire District received the
nation's first Code Fearless Award, given by the National Fallen
Firefighters Foundation and the New York Firefighters Burn Center
Foundation.From across the nation,
firefighters and the families of firefighters who lost their lives
gathered at the Roseland Ballroom in Manhattan for the presentation.
MFD
received this award for its use and support of the 16 Firefighter Life
Safety Initiatives. Over the past year and a half, members have put
these initiatives on place to stop firefighter fatalities and reduce

"As
firefighters, we must have the courage to face a multitude of risks in
order to save lives and protect communities. But it takes a different
type of courage to do the right thing to save the life of a
firefighter, changing the attitude that firefighter deaths are a normal
and acceptable outcome."
